I don't write reviews of short stories, but I found one that I rather enjoyed, and I thought I would point it out. A Colder War is the only story by Charles Stross I have ever read, and I was intrigued. A full-length novel version is coming out in a few months under the title The Atrocity Archives (you can preorder it at Amazon.com). I don't buy new hardbacks, but I'll definitely be on the lookout for used Stross paperbacks at the bookstore the next time I go.

Anyway, it's one of the better short stories I've read in a while. It's a Lovecraftian story, I think, not that I know much about Lovecraft, but his stuff is pretty well known. I'm not quite sure how it works out, but apparently anybody can write a story set in Lovecraft's universe. Probably the copyright just ran out on it. (Check out Lovecraft at http://www.hplovecraft.com/).

A Colder War is available online.
