I wasn't too impressed with this one. The main conceit here is that people can jump around the galaxy by traveling in different dimensions, but they can't do it alone: they must pair with, or ride, another psychic animal. Piserchia used the same basic mechanism in The Dimensioneers. It's interesting once, but not twice.

This one didn't do it for me.
