Year's Best Fantasy: 2001

As a fan of science fiction, I'm intimately familiar with short stories, so I feel I can judge fairly on the quality of this particular anthology. Some of the stories are good, some are stupid, most are OK. On the whole, it was a weak collection of stories. Almost any collection of science fiction stories I have read is better than this set of fantasy stories. However, fantasy as a whole should not be judged by this one volume.
For one thing, science fiction simply produces more short stories than any other genre, so there were fewer stories available for inclusion in this fantasy anthology. Additionally, the introduction to the book made it clear that 2001 was not a good year for fantasy.
This brief foray into fantasy has left my opinions unchanged. I don't have anything against fantasy, but personally I find science fiction far more intriguing. I'm going to stick with what I enjoy.
