" * * -- Philip José Farmer * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * What is the title of your new fantasy story? > "The Gates of Creation". Is this book part of a series? > Yes. My "World of Tiers" series. Why are you writing a series? > Because I'm a money-grubbbing capitalist. And because those crazy fans buy this stuff like you wouldn't believe. What sort of hero would you like? A Lord, or a commoner? > Ha ha. That's the genius of my idea. I want a hero who used to be a Lord, then got conked on the head and lived as a common Earth man, then remembered everything and is now back to being a Lord. His name is Robert Wolff. What is the quest? > To rescue Chryseis, Wolff's wife. Who is the villain? > Urizen, Wolff's father. What are the villain's motivations? > He's old and mean. All the Lords are old and mean, except our Hero. There's no reason, Lords are just predisposed to enjoy tormenting and killing their friends and family. What are the obstacles to rescuing Chryseis? > Urizen sets traps to kill those who try to come after him. Do you want a gimmick? > Yes. Lords have the innate power to create entire universes, which are joined by magical teleportion "gates". Which author's style would you like to poorly imitate? > Edgar Rice Burroughs. But instead of having the hero rely on his wit, knowledge of nature, and stupendous physical strength, let's give him a super-powerful technological weapon so he can blast his way out of a tough spot. Anything else? > Make it short. I'll have to read this rubbish before I send it to the publisher and I'm already feeling queasy just thinking about it. As you wish. Your book "The Gates of Creation" will rate a two out of five. * * * File "gatesofcreation.txt" saved. * * * Would you like to write another book today? > _
