A crossover between Wells and Burroughs. The War of the Worlds meets A Princess of Mars. The story is excellent work and captures the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs. The only disappointment is that it's not a complete story. It's scarcely the beginning. This is the first chapter or two in what would be a worthy entry in the Barsoom series.

Alas, it ends just as it was getting good.

It's included in the collection War of the Worlds: Global Dispatches, edited by Kevin J. Anderson. The collection includes a number of War of the Worlds stories written in the style of other famous authors.
